State-owned shipping company PT Pelayaran National Indonesia (PELNI) has recently signed an memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk to conduct a joint study for the possibility of PELNI vessels to use alternative clean energy sources such as LNG, CNG, and biofuel to replace petroleum fuel.

The company said in a statement received Thursday that the joint study would also include exploring the possibility of Medco using PELNI vessels to transport its products.

The MoU was signed on Monday by PELNI President Director Syahril Japarin and Chief Operating Officer for Power, Mining, and Downstream at Medco, Budi Basuki on Monday.
