Medco plans underground coal gasification project

IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energy Internasional Tbk plans to develop an underground coal gasification (UCG) project at the mine site of its coal mining subsidiary in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan, Kontan reported on Tuesday.
The paper quoted Adhi Wibowo, Director for Coal Development and Management at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, as saying that Medco has made a presentation about its plan to conduct initial study of the UCG potential.
Medco?s subsidiary PT Medco Energy Mining International via PT Duta Tambang Rekayasa operates a coal concession in Nunukan. The company has set production target of 600,000 tons this year, all of which to be exported. (*)
