Medco reports gas flow incident at E. Kalimantan oil field

IDX-listed energy firm Medco Energi Internasional TBk reported that an uncontrolled natural gas flow incident occurred during a drilling operations in Sembakung TAC block onshore East Kalimantan.
The company in its report filed with the IDX on Monday revealed that gas started flowing at the wellhead following cementing of 9 5/8? casing on Sunday, January 27, 2008.
The gas, which is believed to originate from a shallow gas zone flowed through the annulus between casings to the well head.
The company had stopped drilling operations at Sembakung #60 well and shutting down wells in the vicinity of Sembakung #60 well.
?At this moment Medco continues taking intensive measures to stop the flow, ? the company said.
Medco has 100 percent interest in Sembakung, which produces 2,400 barrels of oil per day. (alex)
