IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi International Tbk said that electricity production from power plants run primarily by its 49 percent-owned subsidiary PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) last year increased to 1.7 GWh compared to 1.3 GWh in 2015.

Medco said in a statement Monday that power generation this year will increase to a range of 2.1-2.2 GWh. No further details were provided.

MPI, which is controlled by Saratoga Power, operates a number of power plants in Batam and South Sumatra. Last month, the first unit (110 MW) of the 3x110 MW Sarulla geothermal power plant project in North Sumatra, dubbed as the largest in the world, started commercial operation. The second unit is scheduled to start operation in September of this year and the third in 2018. MPI is part of a consortium called Sarulla Operations Ltd which develops and operates the power plant.

Earlier this year, MPI signed a power purchase agreement with state-owned electricity firm PT PLN for the planned 275 MW gas and coal-fired power plant in Riau Province.

In January of this year, MPI said it aims to complete the Pusaka Parahiyangan mini hydro power plant project (12 MW) in Cianjur, West Java Province, later this year.

Meanwhile, the Cibalupalang mini hydro power plant project with total capacity of 21.5 MW, also located in Cianjur, is reportedly to be on-stream in the second quarter of this year.
