PT Medco Mining Internasional (MMI) said that its subsidiary PT Duta Tambang Rekayasa (DTR) produced 50,000 tons of coal in February, which exceeded the 45,000 tons target despite the heavy rainfall.
F. Hary Kristiono, Corporate Strategic and Commercial Vice President at MMI, said to Petromindo.com on Friday that the coal output is being shipped to India.
"We ship one supramax vessel in a month (February), and is currently loading (the coal) to India for end user through vessel named MV Pacific Bless," Hary said.
He added the company is also sending a bulk sample of trial cargo for chemical industry in Japan with quantity of 20 tons. "Our market is very specific or niche, such as cement, smelter and chemical industries," he said.
MMI is a subsidiary of IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk. DTR is targeted to produce around 600,000 tons of coal this year from its concession in Nunukan, North Kalimantan.
In January, DTR produced around 51,000 tons of coal, which were shipped to Thailand.
