ASX-listed oil explorer CityView Corporation announced on Tuesday that Medco Energi International Tbk, operator of Medco Madura Pertamina joint operating block (JOB) offshore East Java had spudded Telaga #1 wildcat exploration well and presently had reached the depth of 880 feet.

The well is planned to be drilled to the depth of 10,200 feet, using Apexindo 1500HP Rig 2.

CityView said the rig encountered an overpressure shale zone around 500 feet. Mud weight was increased to 9.2 ppg and the drilling penetration rate reduced to 30 feet per hour to prevent hole collapse. The shale section has been drilled through. Gas traces were detected while drilling through the shale formation.

Madura exploration block is located in East Java province. State oil and gas firm Pertamina has 35 percent interest in the block, while CityView, Medco and Falcon Oil Pte. Ltd holds 16.25 percent, 24.75 percent and 24 percent, respectively. (alex)
