The power plant is operated by PT Dalle Energy Batam, which is indirectly owned by Medco Energi through its subsidiary PT Medco Power Indonesia.
The new generator will enable Panaran 2 to increase its electricity supply for customers in Batam to 82.1 MW from its 55,5 MW (2x27,75 MW) gas turbine generator and 6 MW chiller without any increase in rate. Thanks to the new generator, Panaran 2 can utilize steam produced by Symple Cycle Gas Turbine Generator such a way that no additional gas needed and it can operate efficiently.
State owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara has issued performance test to the new generator, allowing it to start commercial operation on March 25, 2010.
It was constructed by the Mitsui-Hyundai consortium. The construction started on June 13, 2008 and was completed two months ahead of schedule. The total value of the project is US$54.6 million, which the firm mostly finance through Project Financing.
Medco Power supplies almost 80 percent of total power electricity demand in Batam.
?The construction of an additional Combine Cycle Turbine Generator at Panaran II Power Plant, which started its commercial operation ahead of schedule shows the company?s seriousness and commitment to help the Government meeting the country?s electricity demand with lower tariff,? explained Darmoyo Doyoatmojo, President Director of Medco Energi.
Fazil Alfirti, President Director Medco Power added, ?This is a long awaited project to improve the efficiency of the power plant as the answer to add power supply in Batam with the same amount of gas as fuel-source.? (denny)
