Medco to add 100 MW power in Batam

PT Medco Power, a subsidiary of IDX-listed PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, will add 100 MW to its power supplies on the industrial island of Batam starting in September next year.
In Batam, the firm has one gas fired power plant which has been operating and being expanded, called PLTG Panaran, and another one, also a gas fired power plant, called PLTG Tanjung Uncang, which is under construction.
Medco Power President Director Fazil E. Alfitri said PLTG Panaran, located in Panaran, operated by the firm?s subsidiary Mitra Energi Batam, will have an additional capacity of 30 MW from a new power unit. At present the power plant has two power units each with a capacity of 27.5 MW.
Meanwhile, PLTG Tanjung Uncang, located in Tanjung Uncang operated by PT Energi Listrik Batam, which is indirectly owned by Medco through subsidiary PT Universal Batam Energi, is also expected to come onstream next year. The power plant is designed with two units each with the capacity of 35 MW.
PLTG Panaran gets gas supplies from PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN), while PLTG Tanjung Uncang will get gas supplies from the Gajah Baru field in Block A Natuna PSC operated by British firm Premier Oil.
Medco Energi is now 51 percent controlled by equity firm Saratoga Capital.
