PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk will allocate at least US$200 million for the development of a geothermal power plant in West Java, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

Arifin Panigoro, Medco’s majority shareholder, said in Jakarta on Thursday that the company had conducted a number of feasibility studies in several areas in West Java including in Mount Salak, Wayang Windu and Mount Patuha for the construction of the geothermal power plant.

In the first stage, he said, Medco would begin the construction of a geothermal power plant with a capacity of 100 MW in Mount Salak or Mount Patuha next year. He added that Medco would provide an initial investment of about US$200 million for the geothermal project.

“If possible, Medco will build a geothermal power plant with a capacity of 200 MW in the area,” he added. (*)
