Jakarta-listed oil and gas producer PT Medco Energi International has formed a new unit to produce liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in South Sumatra, Bisnis Indonesia daily reported Wednesday.

PT Musi Banyuasin Energi, the new company, was expected to start operation by the end of this year or early 2004, the paper quoted as saying Medco?s head of corporate research & information section, Gamala V. Katoppo.

Musi?s LPG plant will process gas from Medco?s Kaji-Semoga fields in South Sumatra?s Rimau block, Gamala said Tuesday. The plant will have capacity to turn out 200 tons per day of LPG, which will be sold to Pertamina under a previously agreed upon scheme.

Medco will invest US$20 million in the LPG project, Gamala added. (*)
