Medco to increase coal output next year

IDX-listed energy company PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk is looking to increase its coal production next year if price of the commodity shows strengthening trend, according to Chief Operation Officer and Director of Other Energy Related Budi Basuki.
He said that the company was planning to start production next year of its Duta Tambang Sumber Alam (DTSA) mine in Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan, with initial capacity of 300,000 tons per year.
The DTSA output will increase the company?s total coal production to around 900,000 tons next year as its Duta Tambang Rekayasa (DTR) mine, also in Nunukan Regency, has been in production since 2012, with production capacity of around 600,000-700,0000 tons per year, explained Budi.
?We?re currently evaluating the development of coal price both at home and international. If the price shows strengthening trend, we?ll increase coal production from DTSA,? he said to Petromindo.com over the weekend.
