PT Medco Energi CBM Indonesia, an upstream unit of IDX-listed energy firm said it would spud first CBM well at its Sekayu CBM area in South Sumatra.

Operations Director Pudjo Suwarno said last week that the well, which will spud on August 15, 2009, will become the first CBM well drilled by CBM contractor in Indonesia.

He said the well would be drilled to the depth of 1,000 meters, with estimate time of completion of one week.

? Production tests would be carried out on the well to determine the number of wells to be drilled to develop the field,? he said, adding that the company and partners planned to drill 4 wells until the end of the year.

He expected to bring commercial CBM production from Sekayu block to come onstream in 2011.

Medco is teaming up with Indonesian firm PT Energi Pasir Hitam Indonesia and Canadian firm McLaren Resources to develop the Sekayu CBM PSC. (bernard)
