Medco will build 330 MW geothermal plant in Lampung

Enery company PT Medco Geothermal Indonesia has reached an agreement with the Lampung provincial administration to build a 330 megawatts geothermal power plant, the Bisnis Indonesia newspaper reported in its Wednesday edition.
Medco Geothermal, a subsidiary of oil and gas company PT Medco Energi Internasional, will utilize the available geothermal steam in the province and it will be built at Suoh in West Lampung.
" So far Medco is well-known in the oil and gas industry. It will be a new effort to tap the country's geo thermal resources, which are in abundance. It is amust to develop this sector," Medco's director M. Rashid Mangunkusumo said after signing the agreement with Lampung and West Lampung administrations in Bandarlampung on Tuesday.
In the first phase, the plant will produce 20 MW, which will supply power to two cities. The company may need in between US$35-$40 million investment in the first phase.(*)
