Media Group to speed up coal exploration

Conglomerate Media Group will speed up coal exploration in Nagan Raya, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) to fulfill the needs of a 15-MW coal fired power plant now under construction in the region, according to an official of the province.

 

"The power plant is being built by the company and is expected to start operation three months from now," head of the province's planning board TR Keumangan told to Petromindo.Com on Wednesday.

 

The business group has a coal concession measuirng 30,000 hectares which holds a proven reserve of 50 million tons, he said. Aside from supplying the power plant, the company would export some of the coal .

 

Media Group, which is controlled by Acehnese businessman Surya Paloh, is active in media and hotel businesses. The goup's portfolio includes Media Indonesia daily and TV channel Metro TV. (Bernard)
