Megawati dedicates resumption of 8 power projects

The eight projects were among the 14 mega projects relaunched by the President in Wednesday?s ceremony in Cikampek, east of Jakarta.
The electricity projects include seven power plants to be developed by independent power producers and one plant to be completed by state power company PLN. The other project is the Paiton-Kediri-Klaten transmission and relay station.
The seven power plants are Paiton I which is to be developed by PT Paiton Energy, Pation II (PT Java Power), Tanjung Jati B (PT Tanjung Jati Power), Salak (PT DGI/DSPL), Darajat (PT Pamoseas), Sengkang (PT Energi Sengkang), and Lahendong (PT PLN).
The eight projects have combined value of around US$7.1 billion.
Paiton I (E. Java) is valued at $2.5 billion; Paiton II (E. Java) $1.98 billion; Tanjung Jati B (C. Java) $1.65 billion; Salak (W. Java) $285 million; Darajat (W. Java) $155 million; Sengkang (S. Sulawesi) $182 million; Lahendong (N. Sulawesi) $250 million; Paiton-Kediri-Klaten transmission and relay station $135 million.
The government in 1998 suspended the development of 27 power plants and other large projects due to seriously strained national budget following the severe economic crisis. (leo)
