President Megawati Soekarnoputri next month will officially launch the continuation of the development of several mega projects worth billions of dollars, which were suspended by the government during the 1997/1998 financial crisis, according to Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Coaltrans Conference in Nusa Dua, Bali, Purnomo told reporters Monday that among of the projects whose development would be resumed included the Tanjung Jati B, and Paiton I and II power projects, and also the South Sumatra-West Java gas pipeline.

He said that the Japan?s JIBC bank had agreed to help finance the latter project.

?This shows the government?s seriousness in trying to allure foreign investments into the country,? Purnomo said.(Alex)
