The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) on Friday launched an information technology system that enables the ministry to monitor the distribution of biodiesel.

Director for Downstream Business at the Directorate General for Oil and Gas, Muhammad Rizwi Hisjam said at the launching ceremony that the IT system will simplify verification on the use and distribution of biodiesel.

With the IT system, he said, the MEMR can obtain data on the implementation of the B20 program on a real time basis, accurate, transparent and measurable.

He noted in carrying out the verification process, the Directorate General for Oil and Gas is assisted by an independent surveyor. For 2019, the MEMR has appointed PT Surveyor Indonesia to conduct the verification.

"This IT system will support the implementation of the B20 program," he said.

The government has introduced policy expanding the use of 20 percent biodiesel content in automotive diesel to include non-subsidized diesel fuel used in various industries including mining, locomotives and shipping.

Under the policy, which was effective per Sept. 1, 2018, the non-subsidized automotive diesel used in the aforementioned sectors must contain 20 percent biodiesel (fatty acid methyl ester) derived from palm oil.
