The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources’ Directorate General of Oil and Gas signed a cooperation agreement with the Indonesian Navy (TNI AL) to strengthen maritime oversight of upstream oil and gas activities, particularly in offshore areas.
The agreement, signed in Jakarta on Feb. 19, extends an existing partnership under which navy personnel are assigned to support supervision duties within the Directorate General of Oil and Gas through the Maritime Affairs Special Staff unit.

Oil and Gas Director General Laode Sulaeman said the cooperation supports government efforts to raise national hydrocarbon output, including a target of producing 1 million barrels of oil per day, by ensuring security and operational stability at offshore facilities and infrastructure.
Navy personnel chief Vice Admiral Bambang Irwanto said the extension aims to improve coordination, effectiveness and evaluation of personnel assignments supporting the oil and gas sector.
The agreement formalizes the legal framework for the continued deployment of navy personnel within the Directorate General of Oil and Gas as and is expected to enhance security and operational continuity for offshore oil and gas activities as part of Indonesia’s broader energy security strategy.
