The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has proposed for a downward revision of non-tax revenue target from the mining sector in the 2015 state budget due to the lingering downturn in coal prices.

Director General of Mineral and Coal R. Sukhyar said Friday that the non-tax revenue from the mining sector in the 2015 state budget has been initially set at Rp 50.6 trillion, but the ministry has proposed to revise downward the target to Rp 40.6 trillion.

He pointed out that the realized non-tax revenue from the mining sector in 2014 was only Rp 35 trillion compared to target of Rp 39 trillion due to the lower coal price.

He added that the revenue was mostly contributed by the coal sector as the mineral sector has yet to be able to make optimum contribution following the mineral ore export ban policy in January of 2014.

Sukhyar added that the ministry has also lowered the country?s coal output this year to 425 million tons from the initial plan of 460 million tons. Of the output target, about 92 million tons would be allocated for the domestic market through the domestic market obligation (DMO) scheme, while the remainder for export.

Coal output in the country, the world?s largest thermal coal exporter, last year was expected to reach 420 million tons, Sukhyar said. (*)
