MEMR suspends new permit for coal transport

The Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has recently issued instruction letter No 02 I/30/DJB/2014 to suspend the issuance of new special production operation mining permit (IUPK) for the transport and selling of coal from one province to another and overseas.

According to copy of the letter obtained on Friday that the decision was made amid ongoing revamp of the permitting process in the sector for better oversight. It added that the suspension will be valid for 12 months since the effective date of the instruction.

IUPK permits applied with the ministry prior to the issuance the instruction would still be processed, it added.
