MEMR to certify tin mining equipment

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) is drafting a new regulation to implement certification of offshore tin mining equipment used by small-scale miners to ensure that they meet safety and environmental standards.

Director General of Mineral and Coal Bambang Gatot Ariyono said in a statement over the weekend that the new regulation is expected to be completed by year end.

He added that the certification is part of the government?s efforts to bolster supervision and management of small-scale offshore tin miners, mostly local individuals in Bangka Belitung.
