MEMR to take over authority on tin export recommendation

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) is drafting a new regulation that would allow it to take over the authority in the issuance of export recommendation for tin bars from governors of producing provinces, Kontan reported on Friday.

The paper quoted Director General of Mineral and Coal R. Sukhyar as saying that once the new regulation is applied, tin bar producers must seek for export recommendation letter from the ministry (no longer from provincial governor) to be able to become registered exporters.

While the ministry has been in charge of issuing the export recommendation for other minerals, recommendation letter for tin bars has previously been issued by governors. Sukhyar said that the new regulation will hand over this authority to the MEMR.

Tin bar producers will also have to meet the same requirements as applied to other mineral producers to obtain the export recommendation letter from the MEMR including having a clean and clear (C&C) status of their mining permits.

The new regulation also will no longer oblige tin bar producers to make the export transaction through the Indonesia Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (ICDX). (*)
