MEMR transfers supervision of mining sector to governors

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has issued a new ruling transferring the authority in overseeing the mining sector to provincial governors.

Director of Coal and Mineral Management Program at the ministry, Paul Lubis was quoted on Tuesday as saying that the ministry will meet in Bali on April 15 with heads of the mining offices in the regions to introduce to them the new Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation No 2/2014 on the transfer of part of governmental affairs in the energy and mining sector to the governors as representative of the central government.

Among of the news responsibilities to be assumed by the governors include the supervision of mining permits issued by regency/mayoralty administrations, Paul said. He added that the governors must make regular report to the minister regarding the supervision of the mining sector in their respective regions. (*)
