MEMR unveils 322 community mining areas across four provinces

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) has unveiled 322 Community Mining Areas (Wilayah Pertambangan Rakyat/WPR) across four provinces—North Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, West Sumatra, and North Sulawesi—building on mining areas previously designated under the 2022 Ministerial Decree on Mining Areas.
Speaking during a working meeting with Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) on Thursday (Jan. 29), Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung said that North Sumatra has nine WPR blocks, Central Kalimantan 129 blocks, West Sumatra 121 blocks, and North Sulawesi 63 blocks.
He explained that the Governor of West Sumatra had initially proposed 332 WPR blocks; however, following a verification process, the ministry approved only 121 blocks.
Yuliot also noted that four provinces have yet to submit any revisions to their WPR proposals, 21 provinces are currently in the process of submitting revisions, while 13 provinces are still referring to the 2022 ministerial decree.
