Singapore-based company Pearl Oil has commenced first oil from its Mengoepeh oilfield in Tungkal PSC, South Sumatra, but the production must be halted due to unavailability of condensate, which was used to mix heavy oil the field is producing.
A company official said the flow rate from two wells reached 1,000 barrels per day starting last week. ?Production is ready to be resumed whenever the condensate is available,? a company official said.
Earlier, Pearl Energy president Richard Lorentz said that the field would produce 5,000 barrels of oil per day.
Pearl has a 100 percent working interest in the block after acquiring the concession area from ConocoPhillips last December.
The Mengoepeh oil field was discovered by Gulf Canada in April 1997 through its first wildcat well, which flowed oil with a maximum rate of 1,296 BPD. (alex)
