MGM halts coal barging due to dry season

Central Kalimantan coal producer PT. Marunda Graha Mineral is unable to barge its coal production for the past month due to drop in Barito river water level, Banjarmasin Post reported Monday.

The daily reported that the stoppage was due to regular dry season that began to hit the area. MGM uses 4,000- ton capacity barges, which travel some 530 kilometers to reach Taboneo port in South Kalimantan to transport its coal products.

The daily added that MGM is planning to dredge some part of the river to enable smaller barges to get through.

MGM is the coal concession holder of Coal Contract of Work, generation II, located in the Regency of North Barito, Central Kalimantan. The company ships most of its semi-soft coking coal products top Japan. (*)
