MHU expands East Kalimantan coal mining sites

Coal mining company PT Multi Harapan Utama (MHU) is seeking to expand its coal mining operation in Kutai Kertanegara regency, East Kalimantan, the local Kaltim Post daily reported Wednesday.

The paper quoted company spokesman Nella Fernandez as saying that MHU would expand its mining site by more than 20,000 hectare in a bid to boost production to around 2 million tons starting 2002.

Nella said that the license for the expansion was currently being process by the local authority.

MHU exports 80 percent of its coal production.(*)
