MHU to quadruple coal production in 2015

East Kalimantan coal mining firm PT Multi Harapan Utama (MHU) is embarking on ambitious plan to quadruple production to 10 million tonnes in 2015 from 2.5MT currently.

Operations Director Gatut Adisoma said on Tuesday that production addition will come several new pits including Gitan, Teluk Dalam and Tanjung Lahung.

Currently, all of MHU?s coal production comes from Busang ?Jonggon pit with Swiss trader Glencore AG acting as offtaker.

Gatut said that the three pits would developed in stages with Gitan pit expected to start production early next year with capacity of 1.5 MT and followed by Teluk Dalam and Tanjung Lahung mid-2011 with combined capacity of 3MT in the first year, ramping up to 5 MT in the next few years.

Gatut said that coal produced from the new pits will have lower CV than that of Busang Jonggon.

Gatut said MHU is still looking for potential buyers for its future production. MHU is a coal contract of work holder operating near Samarinda.(denny/alex)
