Miang Besar Coal Terminal to start construction in Q1 2011

It is expecting to start construction in the first quarter of 2011.
The company?s official Jim Dracopoulos told Petromindo.Com that the company is also seeking investors to join it in the project.
He just said that the terminal is designed with capabilities of of accommodating Chinamax vessels of up to 400,000 deadweight tons. It will be equipped with barge unloading, rail, truck and conveyor receiving facilities, and stockpile capable of storing up to 7.2 million tons.
The construction of the first stage of the terminal is expected to be completed within 2 years. Once the first stage is completed, the terminal will be capable of shipping around 40 million tons per annum with stockpile and blending capacity of 1.8 million tons, 9,000 tons per hour ship-loading rate.
The company is eyeing large mining projects in Wahau area to become customers and target up to 30 million tons per annum.
Earlier, the company said that MBCT will target mines in East Kutai, including the mines that are owned by the company as its customers. The mines include those owned by PT Indonesia Coal Development, PT Perkasa Inakakerta, PT Tekno Orbit Persada, PT Indo Batubara and PT Mandiri Intiperkasa, which would have a combined peak capacity production of more than 60 MTPA.
The island of Miang Besar is an excellent location for the terminal as there are 35 metres of water at the proposed berth which is just 450 metres offshore. The approach and departure channel at the port is very safe with water depths in excess of 35 metres. (denny)
