Aceh-based coal miner PT Mifa Bersaudara said it has secured two coal sale contracts from buyers in India and China as the company aims to boost production this year to around 2.5 million tons.

?We now have two ongoing coal sale contracts. Demand in the global market remains stronger than in the domestic market,? said President Director of Mifa, Slamet Haryadi to Petromindo.com on Friday, but did not provide further details about the two contracts.

Mifa last year slowed down production to only around 500,000 tons amid an overall weak price environment, supplying the output mainly to cement maker PT Lafarge Cement Indonesia.

The company, which produces low rank coal with calorific value of 3,400 kcal/kg (GAR) and very low sulfur content of 0.15 percent but relatively high moisture content, plans to boost output this year to 2.5 million tons amid recovery in the price of the commodity.

Slamet is optimistic that demand for its coal output will remain strong both from overseas and domestic markets. He pointed out in particular that new coal-fired power plants in the country are designed to use low rank coal. ?Our coal has very low sulfur, so it?s environmentally friendly,? he said.
