Despite an increasing number of policemen guarding U.S-mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia, a military car belonging to Tembagapura District Military Rayon was shot at by an unknown gunman around the area on Wednesday.

The gunman shot the window of the car when it was passing through miles 41 and 42 of the road at 6:10 a.m, at local time, The Jakarta Post reported.

?None was injured during the incident,? spokesperson of the Papua Police Office Snr. Comr. Agus Riyanto said.

He added that the shooter had taken advantage over the firm's quiet condition when the shooting took place.

?The shooter also knows well the situation of the place and is very mobile. We keep on hunting for his whereabouts,? he said.

Early this month, the office deployed 600 personnel to safeguard the company amidst escalating tension after shootings that lead to the death of the firm's employees recently.(*)
