The Sriwijaya military commander Maj. Gen. Sutardjo said on Saturday that an investigation was being carried out including the possibility of the involvement of security officers in the rampant smuggling of tin out of the Bangka Island.
Speaking to reporters during a visit to tin mining firm PT Koba Tin, Sutardjo called on the public to help in the investigation process by providing information.
He also added that the resolution to the smuggling problem would also help resolve the problem of massive looting of tin at Koba Tin's reserves. He said that the looting was rampant due to the high demand of the tin from the smugglers.(*)
