Minahasa Council to summon NMR over plans to end operation

The Minahasa district Council in North Sulawesi plans to summon gold and copper mining firm PT Newmont Minahasa Raya (NMR) over plans to end its operation in 2003 after its contract expires.
Several Council members were quoted by the local Manado Post as saying that they wanted to hear from NMR about its plans with the ex-mining site in the post-mining period including the land reclamation activity.
The councilors said that the ex-mining site could be transformed into a tourism object.(*)
