The Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (Minerba) at the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has recently signed an agreement with Japan Oil, Gas and Metals National Corporation (JOGMEC) to carry out joint research on clean coal technology.

Minerba said in a statement obtained Tuesday that the one-year agreement, which can be extended, has already been implemented taking Pendopo mine area in South Sumatra, operated by coal miner PT Pendopo Energi, as location of pilot project.

?The Pendopo area is expected to be a sample area for (the development) of clean coal technology in other areas in Indonesia,? the Minerba said in a statement.
