Minergy, Jasa Sarana to build geothermal power plant

Two local companies PT Minergy Nusa Resource and PT Jasa Sarana will jointly build a geothermal power plant in Gunung Tangkuban Perahu, West Java, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Wednesday.

Afif Kusumo, Minergy's director said in Bandung Tuesday that the construction of the geothermal power plant, which would have two generators each with a capacity of 55 MW would commence in 2010, with total investment of about US$150 million.

"We will soon carry out a feasibility study in the area which is believed to have geothermal potency of about 200 MW," he was quoted as saying by the newspaper following the signing of a cooperation agreement on the development of the geothermal resource in the area with the West Java administration.

West Java is estimated to have geothermal resource of about 5,600 MW, but it is only able to provide power supply of about 749 MW. Four existing geothermal power plants including PLTP Kamojang, PLTP Darajad, PLTP Wayang Windu and PLTP Awibengkok. (*)
