The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is drafting a new ruling that would require miners to include certified mineral reserves in their production reports to the government amid doubt over the validity of the reserves report, Bisnis Indonesia reported Wednesday.
Dede I Suhendra, a director at the ministry, said that the certified mineral reserve reports to be accompanied by miners in their production reports are crucial to allow the government to produce a more accurate metal and non-metal mineral balance.
He said that most of the reserve reports submitted to the government have not been certified.
Dede added that the mineral reserves balance report is crucial for investors planning to develop domestic smelters. (*)
