Mining association urges govt to review ruling No. 82/2001

The Indonesian Mining Association (IMA) urges the government to review ruling No. 82/2001, which bans dispose solid waste materials either including in the form of tailing into water or water source.

IMA chairman Beni Wahyu said that the ruling, issued in December last year, was discouraging investment in the mining sector.

He said that tailing was not necessarily bad to the environment as evident in the case of gold mining operation PT Freeport Indonesia whose tailing dumping site could be planted with various plants.(Amoros)
