Mining authority to be handed over to local administrations

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro said over the weekend his office would transfer the authority in the general mining sector to local administrations.

The minister said that the mining sector was one of the prospective sectors to attract foreign investment and help economic recovery.

He said he would continue the policy of his predecessor and would only fine-tune some policies in the energy and mineral resources sectors.

When asked about how he would handle graft cases in his new office, Purnomo said that he would soon coordinate with the attorney general, the Indonesian Military (TNI) commander and the National Police chief to follow up and expedite investigations against all graft allegations. (*)
