Mining firm agrees to employ more local workers as precondition for expansion

Coal mining company PT Multi Harapan Utama (MHU) has agreed to employ more local workers as a precondition for the expansion of its mining site in the Jembayan village, Loa Kulu sub district, in Kutai Kertanegara regency, East Kalimantan.

The local Kaltim Post daily reported that the agreement was reached during a meeting between the company and representatives of the Jembayan village.

The meeting was organized by the provincial office of the environmental assessment agency or Bapedalda. The company expansion plan would include the development of new road and a special harbor.

The villagers also demanded MHU to observe the environment in the expansion of its operation and to maintain its community development program in the area. (*)
