Mining sector companies to receive Comdev awards

President Megawati Sukarnoputri will next month present awards to companies from the energy and mineral resources sector for their outstanding service for the welfare of communities in their areas of operation, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said Monday.

Some provincial administrations and community leaders will also receive similar awards from the President during a ceremony scheduled for May 7, the ministry said in a press statement.

The ministry did not mention their names however.

It said further that on May 7 the President would also open a national workshop on community development in the energy and mineral resources sector.

Participants in the workshop will discuss about future community development programs based on a blueprint jointly drafted by the ministry of energy and mineral resources and mining company workers.

The ministry said Monday mining firms together had spent between Rp0.5 trillion and Rp1.5 trillion (US=Rp8,670) on community development projects throughout Indonesia over the past three years. (godang)
