Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia announced that the ministry will revoke the joint operations license for the Mogoi field due to ongoing delays caused by unresolved issues with the current operator.
Speaking during a visit to the Tangguh LNG facility in West Papua on Wednesday, Bahlil explained that although the Mogoi field belongs to Pertamina, the partnership with the operator has not been finalized, preventing the asset's development. "Mogoi belongs to Pertamina, but the partnership with the operator has not been resolved. Therefore, we will take over the block and aim to quickly produce at least 40 MMSCFD, which we expect to achieve within about one year of construction," Bahlil stated.

The field has been under a joint operations scheme (KSO) with Petro Papua Mogoi Wasian since 2014.
In October 2023, Pertamina, in partnership with JSX Gas and Tunhua Internasional Group, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to increase oil and gas production from the Mogoi and Wasian fields. The collaboration also includes a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) scheme intended to produce LNG for use in industries such as nickel smelting and power generation. However, the plan has yet to materialize.
