Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said that the construction progress of the Patimban Port in Subang Regency, West Java remains on track. The port is on its way to partially start commercial operation in 2020.

“What we can expect is that in April next year, we could start using its car terminal. I will coordinate to make sure it will be completed (on time). Then, all sections will be completed at the end of 2020,” Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said when visiting the port on Sunday (23/06).

He hopes that the construction of road access to the port would also be completed by 2020.

The minister said the progress of the Patimban Port is now 29 percent complete and its car terminal construction is 35 percent complete. Given the progress of the car terminal, he expects the car terminal should be able to be used earlier.

The car terminal at the Patimban Port aims to ease the traffic congestion caused by the delivery of cars for exports from Bekasi car manufacturers in West Java to the main Tanjung Priok port.

The Patimban port is designed to accommodate 250,000-300,000 units of cars.

The port development is divided into three phases. In the first phase, the port will accommodate 3.5 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and 600,000 units of completely built-up cars (CBU). In the second phase, the capacity of the port will increase to 5.5 million TEUs and then further increase to 7.5 million TEUs in the third phase.

The port is being developed as an alternative to the congested Tanjung Priok port in North Jakarta.
