Minister expects Freeport investigation to be used to boost safety, investment

Coordinating Minister for Economy Hatta Rajasa said that he expected the investigation on PT Freeport Indonesia, particularly on its underground mining facility, would identify weaknesses that shall be corrected and improved right away soon.
Minister Hatta said that such improvement was needed to pave the way for future sustainable investment in mining sector in the country.
"I will ask later that the result of the investigation be presented comprehensively so that weaknesses can be identified and fixed," he told Petromindo.com at the State Palace.
"We hope this (investigation) can be completed soon so that the investment can be smoothed," said Hatta.
PT Freeport Indonesia has resumed production activity at open-pit mine, but investigation at its overall underground facility remains ongoing.
