Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi on Tuesday inaugurated Jatake railway station in Tangerang Regency, Banten, adding a new commuter rail node on the Tanah Abang–Rangkasbitung line to support growing urban mobility in the Greater Jakarta area.

The new station, located in Jatake Village, Pagedangan subdistrict, is expected to help relieve passenger congestion at nearby Rawabuntu and Cisauk stations, which have seen sharp increases in daily ridership, Dudy said at the inauguration ceremony on Jan. 28.

“Jatake Station was built to respond to the growing mobility needs of the community and rising demand for public transportation in line with the rapid development of the Serpong, BSD and surrounding areas,” Dudy said.

Jatake Station has the capacity to serve up to 20,000 passengers per day and is designed to strengthen rail transport as the backbone of urban mobility, in line with the government’s push to shift commuters away from private vehicles to mass transportation to reduce congestion and emissions.

The project was developed without funding from the state budget, using a collaborative financing scheme involving the central government, state-owned enterprises, regional administrations and private companies. Construction was carried out through a cooperation agreement between state-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) and property developer PT Bumi Serpong Damai Tbk, Dudy said.

“I appreciate the collaboration that made this project possible without relying on state budget funds, through a healthy and mutually beneficial partnership,” he added.

Jatake Station has a total building area of 3,198 square metres, including a 300-square-metre platform and a three-storey station building with integrated supporting facilities. Trains will serve the station at intervals of five to 10 minutes, with 192 train services scheduled to pass through daily.

The station is expected to improve accessibility and support local economic activity in Tangerang Regency and surrounding areas.

The inauguration was attended by Banten Governor Andra Soni, Railways Director General Allan Tandiono, KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin and Sinarmas Land President Director Michael Widjaja.
