Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan inaugurated on Thursday a second household gas pipeline network (also known here as jargas) in Cirebon, West Java Province, for some 3,503 households.
The ministry said in a statement that the first household gas pipeline network in Cirebon was completed in 2012 for 4,000 households.
The statement said that the Cirebon household gas pipeline network will be managed by state-controlled gas distribution firm PT PGN Tbk, with gas supply coming from PT Pertamina EP at a volume of 02 mmscfd.
The government this year is seeking to massively develop new household gas pipeline networks in a bid to push more households to switch into natural gas from LPG, which is mostly still imported.
From 2009 to 2018, the government has developed household gas pipeline networks in 40 regencies/mayoralties in 16 provinces, covering a total of 352,852 households.
This year, the government plans to develop new jargas for 78,216 households in 18 regencies/mayoralties.
