Minister inaugurates Total?s gas and condensate projects

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Z. Saleh inaugurated on Saturday several gas and condensate projects in East Kalimantan owned by Total E&P Indonesie, the subsidiary of French firm Total SA.

The inauguration ceremony was held on the platform of the firm?s South Processing Unit (SPU) camp in Kutai Kertanegara regency, East Kalimantan, attended by among others Director General of Oil and Gas Evita Legowo, head of BPMIGAS R. Priyono, East Kalimantan?s Vice Governor Farid Wadjdy, Kutai Kertanegara Regent Imdaad Hamid and Total E&P Indonesie?s president director/general manager Elizabeth Proust.

The inaugurated projects include Tunu 11, 12, 13A, Peciko 6, which are all part of the Mahakam PSC block.

According to Proust, Total and Inpex, its Japanese partner in Mahakam PSC, have invested a total of $4.21 billion to build compression platforms in the Tunu field and Peciko fields. The platforms are needed to push the low-pressure gas through the pipeline, which runs to the Bontang liquefied natural gas field. These new projects in Tunu and Peciko would be able to boost low-pressure gas to 1,900 mmscfd from the company?s total production of 2,500 mmscfd.

?Until 2017, we plan to invest a total of $16.5 billion at Mahakam PSC. In order to maintain production, we shall invest another $7 billion beyond 2017,? Proust said.

The Tunu and Peciko fields come into operation in 1990. (giok)
