Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik said that the government planned to build new coal-fired power plant with the total capacity of 5,000 MW.

He said that the move was made to help coal miners following the declining of coal prices in recent year.

"I have already talked to President about the plan (to build 5,000 MW power plant)," he told Coaltrans Asia conference in Bali.

He said that the planned 5,000 MW was additional project to the ongoing fast track of 20,000 MW.

The first fast track of 10,000 MW is coal-fired power plants, while the second would be from among others geothermal and renewable energy.
