Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan, during his visit to Japan, asked Japanese technology providers to help Indonesia in developing small-scale gas-fired power plants in small islands across the archipelago.
The ministry?s Director General of Oil and Gas Ego Syahrial said in a statement on Friday that the minister asked the Japanese technology companies to supply Indonesia with rig based platform power plant, or also known here as ?3 in 1 technology,? which is seen more suitable for archipelagic country such as Indonesia.
?The minister has asked the technology suppliers in Japan, what Indonesia needs is a technology what we called as 3 in 1, which includes storage, regasification, and turbine. This is because we have plenty of small islands. It?s not possible if we develop full power plant in Ambon, and in Papua because the cost will be quite expensive. We asked the suppliers to provide rig base platform power plant,? Ego said.
The technology will help the government of Indonesia in accelerating the development of power plants in the small islands.
?In Java, we need FSRU. But in small islands such as in Maluku where there are 1,800 islands, we need small (facility) such as rig based platform power plant. So there will be storage, regasification, and build there the power plant,? Ego said, adding that the plan will be further discussed by related institutions.
