Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ingasius Jonan has signed a new ministerial regulation requiring all fuel oil stations in areas where gas infrastructure facilities have already existed to have at least one gas dispenser to serve motorists in refueling.

Director General of Oil and Gas at the ministry IGN Wiratmaja Puja said in a statement Tuesday that the new ministerial regulation is set to be issued soon.

He added that the policy will be implemented gradually as part of efforts to help encourage the increase use of cleaner gas among motorists in the country. He said that public transportation, government-owned cars and cars owned by state firms will also be required to use gas.

He said that the ministry has also been in talks with the Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Finance to require car makers in the country to allocate 5 percent of every 400,000 car units they produced to use gas as fuel.
