PT PGN said in a press release on Friday that the gas infrastructure include the gas distribution pipeline linking Panaran and Tanjung Uncang at a length of 18-kilometer in Batam. Using 16 mm pipes and with a capacity of 75 MMSCFD, the gas infrastructure will be used to channel gas for industries, households, commercial needs, and power plants in Batam.
The other infrastructure projects are the gas networks for households in Bogor, West Java, and Tangerang, Banten, which were built under a cooperation with the ministry of energy and mineral resources (MEMR). The gas network in Bogor will be used to supply gas for 4,320 households, while the gas network in Tangerang will supply gas to 382 households.
?The cooperation between PGN and MEMR to build this infrastructure will increase the number of households using gas,? said Minister Sudirman in the inauguration ceremony which was also attended by PGN Presidennt Director Hendi Prio Santoso, PGN boards of directors and commisssioners, high officials of the MEMR, and local officials of the Riau Islands province.
Previously, PGN has got an assignment from the MEMR to build and operate gas networks for 4,532 households in Jakarta, and 4,000 households in Cirebon, West Java.
Sudirman noted that other gas netwworks are either being built or already built in 14 locations, including in Palembang, Surabaya, Sidoarjo, Semarang, Subang, Ogan Ilir, Blora, Sorong, Lhokseumawe, Bunyu island. The gas networks are expected to channel gas for 47,430 households.
He said that the development of the gas infrastructure will support the government?s policy of connverting the use of oil fuels (BBM) to the use of gas, and therefore diversifying the energy source away from BBM, the current main source of energy in the country.
He added that with the diversification, Indonesia will also reduce its import of energy which has so far drained a lot of its foreign exchange.
